[Andong=Newsis] Reporter Ryu Sang-hyun = Gyeongsangbuk-do has secured a total project cost of 8 billion won as it has been selected for the construction of a distribution center (FPC) for fisheries production areas and an eco-friendly aquaculture development project in succession in the 2024 public offering

project promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. According to Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 15th, the construction of a distribution center for fisheries production areas will support the establishment of preprocessing facilities to expand the volume of fisheries products processed in production areas and to increase the added value of products.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has been promoting this since 2012, and in Gyeongbuk, the Gyeongju Fisheries Cooperative’s Fisheries Products Distribution Center (2014-2017, 6 billion won) was selected.

The Obadah Food Factory selected this time is a specialized fisheries production company that catches and processes squid, and it received high praise for presenting a plan to secure raw squid, which is decreasing in catch, a joint marketing and local producer organization, and an operation plan for a fisheries products distribution center, as well as a mid- to long-term annual operation plan.

The fisheries products distribution center will be built in the Yeongdeok Lohas Agro-Industrial Complex, and a total project cost of 3 billion won will be invested.

Major facilities include processing and packaging facilities, freezing and refrigeration facilities, and HACCP will be introduced to all facilities.

In addition, three projects were selected for the eco-friendly aquaculture fostering project in Gyeongbuk: Yeongju-si's 'Land-based Shrimp Smart Farm FICL' (Korea Fisheries Research and Development Institute, KRW 900 million), Yecheon-gun's 'Establishment of a Circulating Filtration Land-based Aquaculture Facility' (Freshwater Company, KRW 3 billion), and 'Establishment of a Smart Preventive Aquaculture Facility' (Seonggyeong Fisheries, KRW 1.1 billion).

In Gyeongbuk, 8 cities and counties and 13 locations have been selected for the eco-friendly aquaculture fostering project promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2018, providing great help to the local economy.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is promoting the Smart Fisheries Processing Complex (Yeongdeok, to be completed in 2027, 38 billion won) to build a smart processing platform for fisheries products, and is hastening the 'great transformation of the fisheries industry' from 'catching fisheries' to 'farming fisheries' by focusing on the Smart Aquaculture Cluster Project (Pohang, to be completed in 2025, 40 billion won), the Fisheries ICT Convergence Support Project (Pohang·Sangju, 2 billion won), and the Aquaculture Farm Eco-friendly Energy Supply Project (Pohang·Sangju·Yeongdeok, 6.3 billion won).

Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, "Now is the time for the fisheries industry to respond to climate change and foster it as a high value-added industry," and "We will continue to create new food sources for Gyeongsangbuk-do through the great transformation of the fisheries industry, such as fostering the advanced aquaculture industry and improving the distribution structure of fisheries products."
